Champion of Children raises more than $500,000 annually, enabling hundreds of children in lower income working families to attend quality early learning programs throughout Franklin County. Currently, 30 early learning centers have met specific measures of quality and are able to participate in Champion of Children.
The goal of Champion of Children has always been to create a successful model for funding access to quality early learning. Currently, many families earn too much to qualify for public child care assistance, but do not earn enough to support the full cost of a quality early learning program for their child. Champion of Children supports these families who fall in the gap between public subsidy and economic self-sufficiency with sliding scale funding that parallels their economic need.
Based on extensive research, Champion of Children recognizes that quality early learning is critical to kindergarten readiness, school success, and lifelong achievement. It further recognizes the many proven benefits that quality early learning has on the economic and social fabric of communities. Strong support from corporations, foundations, and individuals is making Champion of Children a viable model for the delivery of quality early learning to disadvantaged children in Franklin County.
